Women Invited to Come to a Gathering

Women of all ages are invited to a unique gathering at Trail Of Tears State Park, at 5:00pm on Sunday, September 25th. At this gathering, around a peace fire, the women over 50, will be invited to share their stories and wisdom. These gatherings are part of the Ripples Of Wisdom expedition paddling down the Mississippi River to collect women's stories. The journey, from September 21 to October 28 is the third leg of the Ripples Of Wisdom adventure. This leg of the journey takes the team, lead by Nancy Scheibe, from St. Louis, Missouri to Grand Isle, Louisiana. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and follow our signs to the gathering location.

"The journey is a celebration and acknowledgement of the wisdom that women acquire through the joys and challenges faced in every day life," says Scheibe. At the completion of the first two legs of the trip in 2004 and 2007, she wrote about the journeys and told the stories of women who came to the gatherings in her books, Water Women Wisdom: Voices from the Upper Mississippi, and Ripples Of Wisdom: A Journey Through Mud and Truth.

To learn more about the expedition go to the project Web site at www.ripplesofwisdom.com. You can follow the expedition on the Ripples Of Wisdom Facebook page.

"The panorama of the Mississippi brought soaring eagles, a barking otter, the challenges of wind and water, a river full of friendships and a special look at women's lives during the first leg of the journey," Scheibe said. "The second trip continued to celebrate the value, power and sacred abilities of women by giving the grandmothers a voice and I can't wait to see what the final leg of the journey will bring."
