Former Thebes, Ill., police officer waives preliminary hearing on misconduct charges

CAIRO, Ill. -- A former Thebes, Ill., police officer facing misconduct charges for allegedly releasing a person from custody in exchange for sexual favors waived a preliminary hearing set for Tuesday morning at the Alexander County Courthouse. Terry Crowe, 39, of Mounds, Ill., was arrested in July by the Illinois State Police and charged with two counts of official misconduct. He was under investigation for a year before his arrest. Thebes mayor and acting police chief John Kennedy suspended Crowe during the investigation. Crowe resigned a week after his suspension. He is free on a $100,000 bond. According to the Alexander County Circuit Clerk's office, Crowe will appear for his arraignment at 1 p.m. Sept. 29 before Judge Mark H. Clarke at the courthouse. Crowe is being represented in court by public defender Shane Aden.
