Momentum Building for RASCALS Foundation

Scholarship Awards

ST. LOUIS, August 4, 2011 -- The Robert A. Stehlin Campaign for ALS

(RASCALS) has issued a friendly reminder to the community that it is

continuing to accept applications and essays for the organization's new

RASCALS Higher Education Scholarship Program. The application period is

set to close August 31, 2011.

"We're very pleased with the interest in our scholarships," said Robert Stehlin,

founder and president of the 501(c)(3) non-profit, public charity. "My only regret

is that we won't be able to help every single person this year, but it's certainly

been a great start to what I hope will be an enduring program. To all those who

are considering an application, remember that there's only one month left to

get your essays written and submitted."

Eligible applicants are ALS patients or their family members residing in

Missouri. The awards will provide assistance in their pursuit of higher

education, and may be used for any scholastic-related need, such as tuition

expenses, textbooks, and school supplies. The awards were made possible by

the RASCALS Foundation, along with a special matching gift from Walgreen's.

"I can't say enough about the leadership at Walgreen's and their support for

this program. Their generosity is definitely going to help change lives in the ALS

community," said Mr. Stehlin. "It's a privilege to work with people like this."

There will be two scholarships awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year in

the amounts of $3,500 each. All applicants will submit a 1000-word essay on

the theme: "How ALS Has Influenced You."

Mr. Stehlin, who was diagnosed in September 2009 with ALS, said the disease

impacts the entire family. "While there are all sorts of challenges, it is extremely

important that families remain positive and forward-looking," he explained, "and

that's the intended spirit of these scholarships."

Recipients will be determined by the RASCALS Foundation Board of Directors,

and notified on or before September 30, 2011. Selection will be made on the

basis of various criteria, including school activities, scholastic achievements,

awards, and community projects, in addition to the contents of the essay.

Complete program guidelines and applications are accessible on the

RASCALS website at http://rascalsfoundation.org/. For help or additional

information, you may also contact Mr. Stehlin at 636-464-6704, or Mr. Greg

Reagan, the RASCALS Treasurer, at 314-960-3629.
