Blackwood Brothers in Concert

Get down to the heart of gospel, July 29 by attending a live concert of the

Blackwood Brothers Quartet at the Anna Arts Center in Anna, IL.

This Friday night concert begins at 7pm and according to Joanne Blakley,

President of the Anna Arts Center, the public is invited to attend.

They have been heard around the world on radio, recordings, television and in personal

appearances. Even Elvis, who loved gospel music, attended many of these conventions

when they were held at Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. When his mother, Gladys died

in 1958, Elvis wanted the Blackwoods to sing some of his favorite songs at her funeral.

Although they were on tour they boarded a chartered plane and ended up singing at Gladys funeral.

They inspired Larry Gatlin of the Gatlin Brothers. "My first hero was James Blackwood of

the Blackwood Brothers Quartet. the first time I heard him sing, ' I want to be more like Jesus', I just knew somehow from that moment that I wanted to be a singer for the rest of my life. The music was infectious and inspiring." Gatlin said.

James Blackwood heritage of gospel carries on today through his sons Jimmy & Billy Blackwood,

tenor Wayne Little, bass Randy Byrd, and pianist Mike Hammontree. To date the Blackwood Brothers

have recorded more than 200 albums and toured in 47 countries. They won eight Grammy Awards and

six Dove Awards. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1998.
