Homecomers

It's two words that for many define this time of year: Jackson Homecomers.

The 103rd annual Jackson Homecomers will kick off this Tuesday and run through Saturday in Jackson's uptown square. Wednesday evening, which includes the Senior Idol competition and a gospel music show, will be sponsored by Montgomery Bank. Homecomers organizer Linda Penzel said she hopes the bank's sponsorship will lead to other businesses sponsoring nights for future Homecomers.

This year's celebration will have a patriotic theme, with each night beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem. Contestants in Tuesday night's queen contest will also wear patriotic clothing.

Thursday night's talent show, with the finals on Friday night, is expected to be a big draw for those coming from out of town. The winner of the 13-to-21 age group will have the opportunity to participate in the Mid-South Fair in Memphis, Tenn.

Rides will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night and at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. And for those whose highlight of the five-day extravaganza is the food, you'll be happy to know that there will be plenty of options again this year.

Consider coming out this week as Jackson hosts what is sure to be another great summer celebration and fun for the whole family. And thank you to all the Homecomers organizers who put in countless hours of work.
