Local Kids Raise $250 to Support Clean Water

Some kids in Scott City worked very hard last Saturday to raise money to fund water projects for their neighbors in Africa. The Children's Church and Youth Group from Cornerstone Wesleyan in Scott City held a Lemon:Aid Stand, along with an indoor yard sale and bake sale. They raised $250.00 for Blood:Water Mission, a charity based in Nashville, TN.

According to Karen Gehl, Director of Children's Ministries at the church, more than 4,000 children die every day from water-borne illnesses in developing countries. "Every 15 seconds, a child dies", says Mrs. Gehl.

Blood:Water Mission was started by the band Jars of Clay 7 years ago, and recently celebrated a milestone of serving 1000 communities in Africa with water projects. Every dollar donated provides somebody in Africa with clean water for a year.

The church is planning a "Water Walk" for this fall, along with another Lemon:Aid stand.
