Speak Out 6/29/11

Homeless children

AFTER watching the "60 Minutes" coverage of homeless children, I could never be or even think like a Republican. My heart goes out to these children, not the greedy Republicans with their tax breaks for the rich and Big Business. I don't know how they can live with themselves. Only if they think of no one but themselves could they.

Robotic candidate

REINCE Priebus, elitist country club head of the Republican National Committee, recently said President Obama is a "... scripted and plasticized president." I wonder what Priebus would have to say about Republican presidential aspirant Mitt Romney. Romney's movements remind me of a robot and his flip-flops of Flipper.

Tattoos, piercings

GOD has created all of us. I just don't believe he has made so many mistakes as for all those that say they are coming out of the closet. I believe he has done his job of creating us, but I do not believe we are following what we should be. I believe it is a mental breakdown. We used to try to look our best. Today it is how you can look with all the tattoos, body piercings, etc. Who would hire someone like that?

Positive reforms

IT was heartwarming to read Jon Rust's column about Saint Francis Medical Center and to be made aware that the hospital has already made significant positive reforms so as to be in accordance with the federal Affordable Health Care Act.

Legal, but immoral

IT may be technically legal, but it is immoral for Jim Welker to retire from the Cape Girardeau Public Schools, draw his retirement money and then go back to work for his salary. Taxpayers have been taken advantage of for too many years.

Depression avoided

SINCE 1928 there have been 13 presidents, seven Republicans (Hoover, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr.) and six Democrats (FDR, Truman, JFK, Johnson, Carter and Clinton). Six of the seven Republican presidents had an unemployment increase while in office. Ronald Reagan is the only Republican president since 1928 to leave office with a lower unemployment rate. All six Democratic presidents had an unemployment decrease or it stayed the same while in office (the worst Democratic performance, Jimmy Carter, had the same unemployment rate when he left office as when he entered.) Viewing all presidents' four-year term gives an even more pronounced effect. Of Republican presidents' terms, unemployment has increased in seven of the nine terms. Of the Democratic presidents' 10 terms, the unemployment rate never increased. With the current president and his merry tribe there is no hope for a strong U.S. economy. Thank goodness another Republican caused depression has been avoided.

City littering

IF I drive in Cape Girardeau and throw litter out the car window, I am likely to be stopped and fined. However, the city recycling truck can go flying down the streets with paper and plastic spewing out the top and nothing is being done to fix that. I have talked to the drivers and they know it.

Bring troops home

GREAT speech, Mr. President. Just in time for the next election. You're going to bring 33,000 soldiers home. Come on, get on the ball. Bring them all home now.

Military casualties

I would like to make a comment on all the troops that are over there that are being killed underneath President Obama. When President Bush was in there, it seemed like we would only have one or two men die a day, which is awful, but since Obama's been president, if you look at the deaths it's five and six a day. Why isn't this being investigated? It seems there are more troops dying now under Obama than there were during the Bush years.

Inspections cost

CITY council members, did you get the message? We do not want to pay for inspections for a new position in the city government.

GOP should sacrifice

REPUBLICANS sure do sink their heels in the sand when any cuts pertain to them in any way, shape or form. They should be the first to sacrifice a small amount of their outrageous income if they really care about, as they say, the American people.

Thank you

I want to say thank you to the person who found my roll of paper towels that had fallen off my cart in the grocery store parking lot and picked them up and turned them in. I was able to get them back. Thank you very much for your kindness and for being a good and honest person. I really appreciate it, and I hope you have a blessed day.

Homeless Children- You are a moron. I know this because you actually believe what 60 minutes tells you. That makes you a drone of the liberal election machine.

City littering:

You're talking to the wrong people, their boss is the one to speak to. If he/his doesn't respond go up the totem pole.

GOP should sacrifice:

Not only the GOP, but all of us will have to sacrifice to get out of the mess that we are in.

Homeless children:

Are you that ignorant?

Tattoos, piercings:

I believe that being Gay is the "in thing" today. And people seeking attention will do anything to get that attention.

Wow, just Wow.

Semo, you'd get alot of attention if you went and jumped off the bridge...

Some people need to learn a little acceptance. If this caller had been born 6000 miles to the east it would be perfectly acceptable to have tattoos and piercings, in fact its a sign of health. It's all a matter of perspective, and some people around here seem to think theirs is the only one

Me'Lange:

Please explain to this ignorant person why there are 20 fold more gays today than 20 years ago....is there something in the water or has God lost the mold on how to create people? Why are there gay parades all over the USA.....they want attention, that's all. Sorry for being ignorant on this matter.

Off to St. Louis for the day....have a great day today to all speakout posters!

Either God is making more mistakes lately or they dont fear being ridiculed, beaten or burned at the stake for their sexual orientation as much as they once did. Get your head outta the sand

Depression avoided- Have you bothered to look at who was in charge of Congress during those republican presidents terms? Yes the President can propose a budget, but Congress has to pass it. How many of those Congresses passed the republican presidents budget...not many. I do know of one...Reagan, and you already stated what happened there.

Homeless children

Why are you commenting on speak out? Shouldn't you be helping the situation right now?

Just curious? Why the republicans? We currently have a democrat and recently had a democratic congress.

Tattoos,

I wouldn't not hire somebody with visable tattoos to work in a public setting, nor allow body piercings in an industrial one. However, what does God have to do with it. Is it really a sin? And judging isn't?

Legal, but immoral

Agree. Many school boards do not allow it. The board should worry about the negative image of double dipping. Good luck ever getting a tax passed again. Great job school board. Are you trying to not better your school?

Depression avoided

Not sure what your point is.

City littering

If you have to exagerate that much to make a point, you have no point to make.

Military casualties

Where are you getting those figures from? Are you talking afganistan? I am sure that is correct. However, what about Iraq? Need to do a better job explaining your poin.

I disagree. Its still a choice because it is a behavior vs. physical trait. I choose to be heterosexual because I am attacted to women. But I also beleive people have the right to live anyway they choose.

What facts are you using to determine a 20 fold increase. There are more parades today because more are out in the open.

I also know of many St. Patrick Day Parades. Why are you not complaining about those Catholic Attention ****** as well. I was in a few homecomming parades growing up as part of the football team. Didn't realize I did it because I was seeking attention.

Thank you for explaining everyone's behavior using misguided opinions.

Did you ever consider that some people simply like to celebrate?

-- Posted by lumbrgfktr on Wed, Jun 29, 2011, at 12:03 PM

Rick,

I agree. However if I have a uniform/appearance standard I will uphold that policy.

Same with the body piercings. I would hire them, but let them know of the policies before hiring.

-- Posted by lumbrgfktr on Wed, Jun 29, 2011, at 12:06 PM

Thats a thin line there lumbrgftkt... the physical act might be a choice but your attraction is not, as stated in your own words

"I choose to be heterosexual because I am attacted to women."

You do not CHOOSE to be attracted to women, you just are

Wheels

back in the day when i was in charge of the Mfg operations , my crew had a meeting first thing every monday to discus safety and any working conditions the operators suggested fixing , how sales were doing and any Holiday Promotion Specials coming up , and sometimes assembled an end Product so workers could see what effects the parts they made had on the finished Product .

i had three rules ... be there everyday , get along with each other , and try your best ...

Wheels

yup..it took me awhile to find out sitting in an office crunching numbers wasn't really important .

i got more bang for the buck by staying on the Mfg. floor and communicating with my crew ...if someone had to use the restroom , i would fill in for them ...i liked to cross train workers on Mfg. equipment so they wouldn't get bored and cover my a** in case of bereavement time , vacations , etc..

they was never a successful Union attempt at my plant...
