Gladys P. Lehne, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born April 28, 1913, at Big Island, near Commerce, Mo., to William H. and Celis Marie Brown Heuschober. She and William H. Lehne were married Oct. 21, 1931, in Cape Girardeau. They were married 76 years. He preceded her in death May 15, 2008.
Gladys was a 1931 graduate of Central High School. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau since 1932, where she was past president of its Junior Ladies Aid, and a Sunday school teacher many years along with many other activities. She belonged to the Lutheran Home Auxiliary 25 years where she led exercise classes and loved visiting shut-ins and the ill.
Gladys never forgot a birthday and sent cards with "a little gift of love" ($). She prayed every night, naming each in what became a long list -- probably most everyone in the congregation at one time or another.
Survivors include a son, Carl Lehne and wife Grace of Florissant, Mo.; three grandchildren, Mark Lehne and wife Sheila of Maryland Heights, Mo., John Lehne and wife Rebecca of Florissant, Mo., Sara Solis and husband Joe of Pleasant Ridge, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ryan, Nathan, and Hayden Lehne, Rosie and Sophie Solis, Preston Thiessen; two sisters, Jen Johnson and husband Kenneth, Pat Hodges and husband James; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
