Quilting for the homeless

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Volunteers gather at the de Paul Center in Cape Girardeau for a large quilting weekend each year, called "Ugly Quilts," but other volunteers throughout the year give their time and talents to the project, which uses donated fabric to make sleeping bags for homeless. St. Joseph in Scott City held an Ugly Quilt weekend April 30 and May 1, where 38 people came to help. Cecilia Walton of Fairview Heights, Ill., was in town for a wedding, but went with family members to help with the project. From left to right, Shawn Gramlisch, Cecilia Walton, Kinsey Gramlisch and Devon Gramlisch work on a quilt. The Gramlisch family regularly volunteer through RSVP-VIC in Southeast Missouri.
