Gary Miller

On May 4, Dr. Gary Miller -- who most recently served as an associate dean and as director of the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus -- died suddenly on his way to choir practice.

Having a great love for music, Miller was described as "a renaissance man" by one of his colleagues. His primary instruments were the organ and harpsichord, but he was also highly proficient on the oboe, cello and piano.

Whether it was playing in a concert or providing invaluable leadership, Miller was a big reason why the River Campus has been so successful.

In addition to the countless hours of musical enjoyment he provided us at the River Campus, Miller was a music director, organist and member at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, but those who would like to make a donation in his name can direct their gifts to the music fund at First Presbyterian Church or to the Southeast University Foundation Memorial Fund, both in Cape Girardeau.

Our prayers are with his family, including his wife Mary and sons Kirk, Kyle, Erik and Alex. And while he will be deeply missed, we know that the choir in heaven now has a talented musician.
