Jackson Art Group Second Saturday in May

Macrame jewely by Susan Welker

Jackson Art Group's Second Saturday in May

Jewelry artist, Susan Welker will have an opening reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Steck House Gallery. This self taught artist has spent several years making jewelry that many consider great for gifts.

Welker, a Cape resident, is a Jackson Art Group member who is great with color and has a large selection of bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Besides a wide variety of beads--including clay and glass--the artist embellishes her macrame pieces with sterling silver, wood, gemstones, leather and seashells. Waxed linen and hemp are used for cording.

Welker said macrame plant hangers will be coming soon. The artist--also a plant enthusiast--custom makes the hangers to showcase the finest bloomers, trailers and ordinary plants.

Welker is a Cape native who attended St. Vincents, Notre Dame and Southeast Missouri State University. She loves yoga, is a vegetarian and loves animals.

Come visit with Welker and check out the diversity of art at the Steck House Gallery, 210 E. Washington, St., Jackson (next door to the First Presbyterian Church). The gallery is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
