Thirteen Perryville Elementary School fourth grade students were recently awarded the President's Outstanding Academic Excellence award. In order to qualify for the award, each student had to maintain grades no lower than an A or A- and they had to have scored an 85 percent or above on the MAP test in either math or communication arts.

Students received a certificate and letter signed by President Obama and a pin distinguishing them for their academic excellence. "Achievement of this award is a year-long effort," said Principal Jennifer Streiler. "Natural ability certainly is a factor, but sometimes a little sweat and a few tears also help. For the parents of these children, you deserve a pat on the back, too. Students who demonstrate a strong academic career usually do so because of support from home. We thank you for your effort and perseverance." (Photo by L. Boxdorfer, Perry County School Dist. No. 32)
