Children's Museum Hosts FUNdraiser

Supporters enjoyed cocktails while bidding on the wide variety of silent auction items.

With the whimsy of Dr. Seuss and the sound of jazz music in the air, supporters turned out to celebrate the year since Discovery Playhouse officially opened its doors. Held on the Museum's second floor, partygoers dined on culinary concoctions catered by Ray's of Kelso. Items included Roast Beast Sliders, Green Eggs and Ham Quiche and Who Pudding Crème Brule Tarts. Attendees perused over 45 different silent auction gifts, concept sketches for future exhibits and slide shows that demonstrated the "diamond in the rough" that the Museum once was. Over the last few weeks, final remodeling of the staircase leading upstairs, as well as the installation of new carpet and tile to the upper level was completed. These items, including design, were donated by the very talented Terry McDowell. "We couldn't have gotten here without the support of our amazing donors, volunteers and staff," commented Jennifer Mullix, Executive Director of Discovery Playhouse. "We will grow to be bigger and better for the children of this region, but we can't do it without continued support from local individuals, foundations and corporations." The Museum had little costs associated with the promotion and hosting of the event due to generous donations from sponsors: Ray's of Kelso, SE Missourian, River Radio Group, Kohlfeld Distributing, The Cake Mom, Montgomery Bank, Lamar, MTI Printing, Baisch and Skinner, Young House Party Central, Sunny Hill Nursery, Schnucks and The Venue. Proceeds from the event go to support the Museum's operational costs and educational programming. The Museum is located at 502 Broadway in Cape Girardeau.
