Virgil Bennie "Ben" Shuls, 68, of Whitewater died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Delta, to Virgil N. Shuls and Druscilla Lesch Moulle. He and Betty Rhodes were married May 5, 1961, at Delta.
Shuls was a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was a Boy Scout leader many years. He was a member of Carpenters Union 1839 in St. Louis, and past president of the Lions Club of Gray Summit, Mo.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Shuls of Whitewater; mother, Druscilla Moulle of Whitewater; three sons, Tod Shuls (Star) of Pensacola, Fla., Timothy Shuls (fiancee Georgia) of Whitewater, Ronald Shuls (Darla) of Villa Ridge, Mo.; a brother, Douglas Shuls (Debbie) of Villa Ridge; two sisters, Dixie Williams (Bob) of Ozark, Ala., Carol Thomure of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Jamie, Nathan, Meagan, Blake, Tiffany and Jodie Shuls; and two great-grandchildren, Trey and Kyla.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stroderville Cemetery in Whitewater.
