2011 Art Contest finalists announced

2011 Best of Show chalk drawing of Hubble Creek in the Jackson City park by Brittney Sides for the Jackson Heritage Association Art Contest

The award presentation for the 2011 Art Contest sponsored by the Jackson Heritage Association in cooperation with the Jackson R-II Art Departments and the Bank of Missouri was held April 10 at the Jackson Senior High School Commons Area. The contest featured Hubble Creek and the Jackson City Park.

The following students were the finalists in their division: K-2 Celesse Englehart, Gracie Metzger, Billie Brady; 3-5 Cheyenne Sanford, Dawson Macke, Sydney McCraw; 6-7 Jake Byrd, Chelsea Drum, Gabriel Dudley; 8-9 Sierra Hughes, Sarah Little, Katie O'Guin; 10-12 Brittney Sides, Katelyn Beasley, Lauren R Mann. Brittney Sides received the award for "Best in Show" for her chalk rendition of the creek with overhanging trees and rock walls.

Hubble Creek was chosen because of its importance to the beauty of the park and its historic significance as an early watering hole, its many floods and the improvements made by the WPA and CCC programs during the 1930s. Any medium of art was permitted, with the exception of photography. The artists could choose any angle, interpretation, or time period of this historic area of Jackson. Contestants were divided by school grade.
