Keeping neighborhoods safe

Living in the area of the Armory at East Rodney Drive and Independence Street is a pleasurable experience. I love the diversity of the neighborhood and especially enjoy the children playing in our common area.

The unfortunate part of living in an area with a lot of apartment complexes is the high rate of turnover.

As a rule, about 98 percent of the people are good, hard-working people just trying to live and enjoy life. But with this turnover, every once in a while you get an unsurly group that comes in. Most people that move into this area do it to get their children into an area away from an area where there is a lot of the bad element.

Good people of the area, when you see activity in the area that reminds you of activity that you moved to this area to get away from, there is a number you can call. That is 573-335-6621. This is the number of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. Believe it or not, they are friendly and are interested in hearing about these questionable activities.

If you would like to keep your neighborhood safe for your children, you must keep your protectors informed of this activity.

Let's keep our neighborhood safe, if not nothing else for these innocent children. They deserve it, and it's the least we can do.

MICHAEL L. JOYNER, Cape Girardeau
