Red Cross support

The Southeast Missouri chapter of the Red Cross recently held its second annual Red Cross Experience breakfast. Local organization leaders highlighted some of the year's successes as well their vision for the chapter going forward.

In 2010 the local chapter trained 13,000 people in its first aid, CPR and water safety classes. They also helped 270 military families make emergency contact with soldiers.

The Red Cross does an outstanding job providing relief for individuals when a disaster strikes, whether the damage is from an earthquake like Japan recently experienced or a local home fire.

In addition to providing disaster relief, the organization also offers valuable programs for individuals, families and businesses. One upcoming opportunity will take place April 28 when the organization partners with the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut. This is a timely reminder on how to prepare yourself should an earthquake take place and what to do in the aftermath.

Consider supporting this organization. Whether you contribute financially, through volunteering or by giving blood, supporting this organization means supporting countless families -- many close to home -- in desperate need.
