Fonn, a 42-year-old surgeon at Midwest Neurosurgeons in Cape Girardeau, gives freely of his time, money and talents. He is a gold sponsor of Celebrate HOPE Cape Girardeau; bronze sponsor of Relay for Life; sponsor of the Muscle Walk; sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association; has sponsored Heartland's Best Teachers; supported international students at Southeast Missouri State University's Diwali Festival; participated in the City of Cape Girardeau's Parade of Lights; guest of "Ask a lawyer, ask a doctor;" and hosted an American Red Cross blood drive.

He is a premier neurosurgeon for KFVS12's Heartland MD and an active member in several medical associations, including Cape Girardeau County Area Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, American Osteopathic Board of Surgeons, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association.

If he had 10 extra hours a week to volunteer...

"I would use the surgical abilities I have been blessed with to teach and mentor young people who are interested in becoming physicians. It is essential to support these young people in continuing their education and becoming trained in medicine, so they are able to give back to their communities. I feel that it is important to encourage the next generation in the mission to care for the underserved and underinsured people in the community, who may not have otherwise had access to care to relieve their suffering."
