These Cape Girardeau County 4-H members were among 150 youth and adults participating in the 2011 Youth Civic Leaders Summit at Windermere Conference Center near Camdenton, March 4 -- 6. Teams of youth and adults from 17 counties attended "Standing Up, Standing Out, Standing Together!" The annual Summit is held at Windermere for teens and adults who are active and aspiring leaders and decision-makers in their communities. Each team of youth and adults representing their county received a $100 mini-seed grant from Monsanto Company and the Missouri 4-H Foundation to implement a collective leadership project with local youth and adults in 2011. The Cape Girardeau County 4-H team will be collaborating with the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardeners to implement a new program "Eating From The Garden" which teaches nutrition and gardening skills to 4th and 5th grade classes in local Elementary Schools.
