CAIRO, Ill. -- A Tuesday morning fire that destroyed an unoccupied residence is being investigated by the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office, according to a Cairo firefighter.
The Cairo Fire Department arrived on scene in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to find the structure fully involved, showing heavy smoke and fire. Firefighters spent three hours on scene containing the fire.
Although the home was unoccupied, the Cairo firefighter said a local man had just bought the residence and was renovating it.
No one was injured in the fire, and homes across the street were not affected by the flames.
