David O. Mason, 64, of Scott City died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 7, 1946, in Mobile, Ala., to Ollie and Dorothy Hanks Mason.
Dave served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2008.
He and Linda Heisserer were married in 1976, and were married 34 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Kara (Javier) Aldrete of Kansas City, Janel (David) Ventimiglia of O'Fallon, Mo., and Erin Mason of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Luke and Lauren Aldrete, all of whom he loved very much.
Dave was a kind and loving husband, dad and papa who will be missed dearly. He was always there for his family, was an optimist and always saw the very best in people. He was an avid baseball fan and loved reading, traveling and visiting the beach during the summer with his family. He was a devout Catholic and was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Dorothy Mason; and two brothers, Larry and Mike Mason, all of Mobile.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. Parish prayers will be at 6:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with full military honors.
Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
