Tournament wrap-up

The Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament wrapped up Thursday with a strong performance from Scott County Central.

The Braves defeated Jackson in the championship game of the tournament 75-34, marking the third consecutive Christmas tournament championship for the school.

In other action, Charleston defeated Cape Girardeau Central High School 68-64 in the third-place game. Notre Dame captured fifth place with a 63-36 victory over Oran. And Chaffee won the consolation final, defeating Oak Ridge 55-49.

According to David Ross, Show Me Center director, Christmas tournament attendance has been above 20,000 since 2002. Ross said this year's attendance, although down from the last few years, was "solid" with 20,484 entering the Show Me Center over the four-day period.

The tournament has been a hallmark event for Southeast Missouri for many years. And while the teams in the tournament are always competitive, the show of sportsmanship is ultimately the most important factor.

Thanks to everyone who made this year's tournament a success.
