CCBDD Holds Holiday Gathering

Participants enjoy a holiday gathering provided by the Cape County Board for Developmental Disabilities

CAPE COUNTY BOARD FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES HOLDS HOLIDAY GATHERING

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO, January 3, 2011 -- The Cape County Board for Developmental Disabilities held its first ever holiday gathering at Main Street Lanes in Jackson on December 18, 2010. The event was open to any resident of Cape Girardeau County who has a disability and their families. More than 145 adults and children enjoyed an evening of food, drinks, bowling, and a gift exchange.

Dory Johnson, board president said, "It was a really special event for the individuals with disabilities and their families who attended. We intend to provide more social events in the future to help deliver support and a sense of community."

The Cape County Board for Developmental Disabilities is an SB40 board established by the voters of Cape Girardeau County and empowered to establish and operate sheltered workshops, residential facilities and/or other related services for the care and employment of people with disabilities. It is a subsidiary board of the Cape Girardeau County Commission comprised of nine volunteers who are appointed by the Commission.
