High school roundup: Perryville girls comes up just short

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Perryville earned a look with a second left but couldn't get the potential game-tying bucket to fall.

The Pirates suffered a 49-47 setback to host North County in the North County Holiday girls basketball tournament Tuesday.

The two-point loss was an impressive improvement from the last time the teams met. The Raiders beat the Pirates by 30 points Dec. 13.

"Our effort was outstanding," Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann said.

Natalie Bauwens led the Pirates (4-5) with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Natalie Gremaud pulled down six rebounds and Allison Moldenhauer grabbed five and added 11 points.

Perryville will play for third place at 2:30 p.m. today.
