Niswonger wins group's human rights award

Dan Niswonger of Cape Girardeau recently received the 2010 Human Rights Award presented by the Church Women United at the World Community Day Celebration. Niswonger lost his leg while on duty with Cape Girardeau Police Department and had to retire from the force. Niswonger has remained active in the community, however. He leads the Kiwanis bingo, assists at the Cape Girardeau Central High School track meets and does seat belt surveys for the Missouri Highway Safety Program. Helen Veleke nominated Niswonger for the award.
