Horticulture students' work recognized

Sunday, December 19, 2010

Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center horticulture students and instructor Harry Bertrand were presented with a citation of commendation for their work at the Capaha Park Rose Garden, Azalea and Butterfly Gardens by the Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs. Over the years many students have been involved in planting, mulching, weeding and trimming the roses in the Rose Garden and helping in the Azalea and Butterfly Gardens. Their help has been invaluable to the upkeep of the Rose Garden, an All American Rose Selection Garden. Under the direction of Bertrand and garden club members of the Council of Garden Clubs, the students have learned how best to take care of roses, from correct planting techniques to the reasons why roses are mulched and pruned in a precise way. They also learned the way to plant azaleas and the importance of mulching the plants.
