CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Pvt. Corey Sisk, of East Prairie, recently completed his military training to become an administrative specialist for Missouri National Guard's Headquarters Company of the 1140th Engineer Battalion in Cape Girardeau.

"I joined the Guard because I wanted to serve my community and country," Sisk said. "I wanted to give my family a better life and I can do that with the Guard."

He graduated from basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., August 26, 2010, and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, S.C., Nov. 12, 2010.

Prior to training, Sisk served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau. Through the program, he learned basic Army skills and values and became more familiar with his role as a Soldier in the Missouri Army National Guard.

Staff Sgt. Clinton Petty, recruiter at the Sikeston armory, said Sisk will be a great Soldier for the Headquarters Company.

"He's a very disciplined and driven Soldier," said Petty. "He always accomplishes any task at hand and he'll work hard for the company."

Sisk will begin serving with his new unit in January 2011.

Sisk is supported in his military career by his wife Holly, their children Anna and Kaitlyn and his parents Teddy and Nika Sisk, of East Prairie. He is a 2008 graduate of East Prairie High School, and works for Pepsi Mid America.
