Sen. Crowell Receives Award from MCCA

JEFFERSON CITY -- The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) recognized Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, for his support of community colleges with a Distinguished Legislator Award on November 5.

"Senator Crowell has a strong and genuine interest in ensuring that all students' educational needs are met. He understands that meeting those needs means making sure that students have access to community college services," said MCCA executive director Zora Mulligan. "We thank Senator Crowell for his support in previous legislative sessions, and we look forward to working with him in the years to come."

Senator Crowell has worked to support the work of business and educational leaders in Southeast Missouri to establish Cape Girardeau County's first community college, the Cape Girardeau Partnership for Higher Education. The community college is a partnership between Three Rivers Community College, Mineral Area College, and Southeast Missouri State University. The first semester of classes began in August with 183 students enrolled.

"I am honored to receive this award and to be a part of bringing educational choice to students in Southeast Missouri," said Sen. Crowell. "These educational opportunities are valuable to our local students, and I will continue to work to ensure they are available."

The MCCA is an umbrella organization that represents each of the state's 12 community colleges. It provides professional development and training to its members and coordinates lobbying efforts in the Capitol.
