Airport success

It's exciting to see good things happening at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

Dating back to 2000, the Cape Girardeau airport saw four carriers come and go. However, the turbulence has subsided, and the airport recently celebrated its one year anniversary with Cape Air.

The previous carriers had their share of problems with flight cancellations. However, Cape Air, a Hyannis, Mass.-based carrier, has canceled fewer than 1 percent of its take-offs in its first year.

In October, Cape Air transported nearly 1,000 passengers.

Having a reliable air transportation option for Southeast Missourians is important. Cape Air has made a significant investment in the community and is providing a convenient service for passengers. Having a local air service is also a good recruiting tool for those selling Cape Girardeau to outside companies that may consider locating in Southeast Missouri.

While it's important to congratulate Cape Air, it's equally important to thank airport manager Bruce Loy and his entire staff for their dedication.

Thank you to all those involved in the airport's success over the past year. Here's to many more years of successful commercial flying in Cape Girardeau.
