StoryThon at Discovery Playhouse

StoryThon children's story is shared by Southeast student, Christi Vitale at 2007 StoryThon.

The Department of Communication's Speaking Across the Curriculum Program and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society will host a children's StoryThon on Sunday, November 14, 2010.

The event is scheduled for 1:30--4:30 p.m. at the Discovery Playhouse in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Stories will be read by students enrolled in Dr. Roseanna Whitlow's UI100 (First Year Seminar) classes and members of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 260. Stories are intended for young children, but kids and adults of all ages are welcome.

Guests will have the opportunity to "Adopt a Book" for a small fee. These books, part of Phi Kappa Phi's Born-to-Read program, are distributed to every newborn baby born in Cape Girardeau's two hospitals, along with literature to help parents understand the importance of promoting literacy by reading to babies and children early and often.

As a special attraction, Guest Storyteller, Jim Riley, will make an appearance and read from his newly published children's books.

Children and adults of all ages are invited to attend any part of the Story-thon as their schedule permits. Children are asked to please bring an adult, and a comfortable sit-upon. (Discovery Playhouse admission fees apply.)
