New brochure honors Cape alumni

Faces of Success

A new brochure honoring twelve distinguished Cape Public Schools alumni is being distributed throughout the community. Faces of Success was produced by a 10-person steering committee composed of community members and district personnel. The publication profiles alumni who have brought pride to the school district through community service, professional growth, character, achievement and other factors.

The district seeks nominations for a second edition, due out sometime in 2011. "Whether they are thriving in business, public service, the nonprofit sector, the military, or in any other segment of society, we're looking for names of alumni who have gone on to do great things," said Superintendent of Schools Jim Welker. "Young or old, living or deceased-- the only criteria for nomination are that the individual makes us proud, and that they attended Cape Girardeau Public Schools," Welker added.

The steering committee ranked nominees to produce a list of a dozen alumni who are outstanding role models. Featured in the new brochure are Jeannie Hirsch Blaylock, Lt. Marquis Allen Brookins, Senator Jason G. Crowell, Jerry Ford, Gary D. Forsee, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, Wendy P. Hager Kunc, Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr., Darla Michele Pannier, Dr. Donna Lynn Parkinson, Michael A. Price, and Rep. Clint Tracy.

Cape Public Schools have more than four thousand students enrolled in kindergarten through twelfth grade. They are served by more than 700 faculty and staff who earned the Missouri honor of Distinction in Performance two years in a row, and who regularly graduate National Merit Scholars and Commended Scholars. The District was recently ranked among the top 16% of school districts in the nation by School Match, a national research firm.

"Many of our alumni achieve national prominence, as can be seen in the pages of this brochure," Welker said.

Nomination forms for the 2011 edition of Faces of Success may be obtained by contacting Cape Public Schools at 573-335-1867.
