Award recipients

Southeast Missouri State University recognized its 2010 Distinguished Service Award and Faculty and Alumni Merit Award recipients this weekend during the university's homecoming festivities.

Distinguished Service Award recipients include: Whitey Herzog, Baseball Hall of Famer and former St. Louis Cardinals manager; Stan and Debbie Crader, president of Crader Distributing and a registered nurse; Dr. Etilvia Arjona Chang, director of the Education USA Center USMA in Panama City, Panama; and Gary Smith, a successful businessman in St. Louis. The Distinguished Service Awards are given to individuals who have made lasting impressions on the university and their respective communities.

Seven alumni were recognized with the Alumni Service Award. This award is given to distinguished Southeast graduates who have also brought distinction to the university. Recipients include: Michael Lincoln (1984) of McLean, Va., the co-founder of the Reston Office of Cooley LLP; Gloria DuCreux (1977, 1979) of Panama City, Panama, a college counselor and co-founder of Balboa Academy; Dan Bussell (1984) of Warwick, N.Y, a photojournalist for CBS News' "60 Minutes;" Donald "Smith" DeLine (1975) of Cape Girardeau, the owner of DeLine and Son Farms and DeLine Realty; Larry Ferrell (1976) of Cape Girardeau, chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, Southeastern Division; Dr. John Vallentine (1981) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, the director of the School of Music and professor of music education at the University of Northern Iowa; and Dr. Greg May (1987) of Santa Fe, N.M., the president of the National Center for Genome Resources.

The Faculty Merit Award is presented to a member of the university's faculty in recognition of his or her teaching excellence. This year's recipient is Dr. Jim Dufek, a professor of mass media.
