Workshop Offered on Mobile Marketing

As more and more people access the web from mobile devices rather than desktop computers, many businesses are wondering if they need to develop a mobile website. Justin Pobst of Element 74 and Elizabeth Shelton of Write Results Marketing will offer a lunchtime workshop to help local businesses understand the differences between mobile and traditional websites, determine whether developing a mobile site or application makes sense for their business or organization, and leave with ideas on how to market to mobile devices. The workshop will be held Wednesday, October 27th at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce from noon to 1:00 p.m.

"The number of calls we receive about mobile websites increases each month, which is why we decided to offer some insight into micro-sites, how they're different, who utilizes them, and when it makes sense for a business to develop one. A lot of people also ask about apps, so we will also review when a custom application is logical," explains Pobst, Director of Business Development for Element 74, a local web design company.

The workshop will present a series of questions for attendees to answer about their business and their customers to determine if a mobile website makes sense. Pobst and Shelton also will review the differences between traditional sites and micro-sites and what customers expect from each. Strategy and ideas for marketing to mobile devices also will be discussed.

Shelton, owner of Write Results Marketing, a marketing communications consultancy, explains, "Many people do not realize how differently a mobile site functions and how differently people use one. The approach to traditional sites has been to provide as much information as possible about what our customers are seeking. With a mobile site people still want information, but we have to be very concise in presenting it. Mobile devices have added a huge marketing element, which needs to be a consideration in every marketing plan, so we will also give our attendees some ideas and guidelines for capitalizing on the technology."

Area businesses interested in attending the workshop scheduled for October 27th can call 332-7474 to register or email: marketing@element74.com. The cost is $25, which includes lunch; attendance is limited to the first 25 registrants. The workshop will be held at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce located at 1267 N. Mt. Auburn Road.
