Redhawks soccer yields first OVC win to Tennessee Tech

The Tennessee Tech soccer team had not posted an Ohio Valley Conference victory before Friday.
That changed at the expense of Southeast Missouri State as the host Golden Eagles beat the Redhawks 1-0.
Southeast fell to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in OVC play. Tech is 3-11 and 1-4 as it broke a six-game losing streak.
The Redhawks, who entered the day tied for second in the nine-team OVC, fell into a third-place tie.
Tech scored the game's lone goal with about 10 minutes left in the first half as Andrea Meloff beat freshman keeper Ashton Aubuchon.
Southeast held a 7-6 edge in shots and had all of the game's three corner kicks but could not capitalize.
The Redhawks return to action Friday with their final OVC road game at Murray State.
The Southeast volleyball team remained ninth among 10 OVC squads after Friday's 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21 loss at Murray State.
Southeast fell to 5-14 overall and 2-7 in OVC play. The Redhawks are just a half-game ahead of last-place Tennessee-Martin.
Three Southeast players recorded double-doubles, including senior Claire Keaton with 12 kills and 19 digs.
Freshman Andrea Baylin had 10 kills and 12 digs while freshman setter Julie Shives recorded 41 assists and 14 digs. Senior Kelly Benacka added 13 digs.
Senior Ashley Nenninger, a Notre Dame Regional High School graduate who is among Murray State's top players, led the Racers with 18 kills.
Redshirt freshman Wendi Zickfield, a Central High School graduate, added two kills for the Racers.
The Redhawks play another road match Tuesday at future OVC member SIU-Edwardsville.
The Southeast men's cross country team finished ninth at Friday's Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill. Southeast's women were 19th.
Senior Jason Lumpkin led the men, placing 21st in the 8K with a time of 24 minutes, 50 seconds
Senior Chris Loseman was 42nd (25:14), sophomore Nate Shipley 49th (25:23), sophomore Alex Zisser 68th (25:34) and senior Dustin Davis 75th (25:44).
Senior Monica Noble was 69th, running the 6K in 23:08, to lead the women.
Junior Liz Speicher was 111th (23:59), senior Kasey Owens 126th (24:16), sophomore Tiffany Mead 153rd (25:11) and freshman Samantha Thierry 163rd (25:33).
Southeast returns to action Oct. 30 at the OVC championships in Cookeville, Tenn.
