Birds cause lights to go out over large area of Sikeston

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Nearly a quarter of Sikeston was briefly without power Thursday afternoon.
Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities Operations Manager Wayne McSpadden said the 10-minute outage, which happened around 1 p.m., occurred after a circuit breaker flashed over, or tripped.
"We believe it was caused by birds in the Coleman Substation on North West Street," McSpadden said.
McSpadden said the Coleman Substation covers one-fourth of Sikeston's electricity.
