Casinos Will Rearrange Jobs

During a recent visit to several commercial establishments in Cape Girardeau, I noticed that business was slow. At the coffee shop the clerk told me several times that business was down and the owners are not sure how many more months they can tolerate the losses.

We had the pleasure to visit a very clean and independent restaurant that will soon be pillored into bankruptcy due to the lack of staffing that will occur when and if the new casino is approved. The owners told us they would close because they cannot afford to lose money when the competition comes. The specials offered by the casinos will undercut the existing businesses all over town.

If you decide to vote for the casino and excercise your right to vote, remember you are voting to close nearly every existing restaurant in the Cape area. The taxes that are paid from the losses of the customers will be a marginal amount compared to the number of businesses that are supporting families presently.

Before you vote to close down the other restaurants and businesses that pay taxes and employ hundreds of people throughout the community. Remember to ask yourself where the money to replace the revenue will come from.

For me, I like visiting the existing small businesses that are located in the Cape area. For that reason I am voting NO.
