Notre Dame swimmers win opening meet

The Notre Dame boys swim team won a season-opening, four-team meet Tuesday hosted by Jackson at the Southeast Missouri State Aquatic Center.

The Bulldogs accumulated 157 points to finish ahead of Central (118), Jackson (111) and Saxony Lutheran (21).

Notre Dame won two relays and two individual events. Ben Rockett led the way by finishing first in the 50 freestyle and swimming legs on the victorious 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Collin Andersson also turned in a first in the 100 breaststroke and was a member of the 200 freestyle relay.

Ryan Gibson won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke for Jackson.

SOFTBALL

Kelly 10, Delta 0

Kristen Powell faced just 16 batters in five innings to shut out Delta. She struck out three and allowed one hit.

Powell also led Kelly (2-1) offensively with a triple and double.

Emily Grojean and Haley Glastetter both added two hits, including a double.

A five-run second inning by host Sikeston was too much for Chaffee to overcome.

Hannah Kutz led the Pirates with eight service points to gain the win at home.

Natalie Bauwens contributed six kills, while Megan Mouldenhauer added 12 assists for Perryville (1-0).

Chelsey Brown collected three kills and five digs for the Tigers.

JV -- Perryville won 2-0.

Woodland Tournament

Leopold, Advance, Zalma and Meadow Heights all claimed victory in the first round of the Woodland tournament.

Abby Landewee had eight kills and two aces as Leopold defeated the Woodland JV 25-13, 25-3.

Hattie Cook and Jill Mills each had four kills as Meadow Heights beat Woodland 25-18, 25-15.

Advance downed Oak Ridge 25-10, 25-14, while Zalma knocked off Saxony Lutheran 25-12, 25-13.

The tournament continues Thursday.
