Robin Carnahan Kicks Off "Educators for Robin"

Growing Group of Missouri Educators Join Robin's Team for her Commitment to Supporting Students and Educators

Today, Robin Carnahan's campaign launched Educators for Robin to bring together Missouri educators who share her commitment to fix what's broken in Washington and put Missouri families first. The group is co-chaired by 7 educators from across Missouri - Sharon Yoder, St. Louis County; Leo and Shirley Langford, Christian County; David Sugg, Carroll County; Richard Pope, Camden County; Peggy Cochran, Morgan County; and Donna Cushman, Clay County.

Robin believes that strengthening our public education system is about more than just expanding opportunity and fulfilling the American dream--it's also about making sure the U.S. remains competitive in the global economy. For her efforts to support educators and students, she has earned the endorsements of the National Education Association (NEA) and the Missouri NEA, as well as the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Missouri AFT.

"Robin understands the importance of public schools to Missouri's future. When it comes to funding and support for programs, I know Robin will be there for teachers in this state."

- Donna C. Clay County

"I support Robin because she has made herself accessible to teachers. She came to the NEA meeting and has met with teachers firsthand. She seems very knowledgeable about the needs of teachers. "

- Jacqueline T. Saint Louis County

Missouri educators know that Robin will work to ensure students and teachers have the tools they need to become the next great generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Robin will fight for commonsense education policies that empower local school districts, improve teaching and learning conditions, encourage more family and community involvement, and ensure public resources and revenue go toward public schools.

While Robin supports educators and wants to expand access to higher education, Congressman Roy Blunt has spent the last 14 years in Washington turning his back on Missouri teachers and students. Most recently, Congressman Blunt didn't even show up to vote on an emergency jobs bill that saved 7,000 teachers' jobs in Missouri, calling it another "bailout." He was part of the GOP leadership team that passed and then underfunded No Child Left Behind by more than $70 billion, and he also pushed through the largest cut to student aid in history, slashing $12.7 billion for higher education. "As a teacher, I support Robin because I know when times are tough children in Missouri will not be forced to carry the financial burden of our state and nation. Robin knows that cutting resources for our children should never come before other alternatives, and I know that as a U.S. Senator Robin will look out for our state's children and their best interests."

- Ian M. Greene County
