A 20-year-old Thebes, Ill., woman suffered injuries to her leg during a Tuesday morning hit-and-run accident near Hanover and Bloomfield streets. Sgt. Jason Selzer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department said the woman was attempting to retrieve the keys from the engine of a car being driven by her 48-year-old stepfather, also of Thebes. Selzer said the man accelerated as the victim reached into the car, injuring her and colliding with a car being driven by his wife, the victim's mother. Selzer said the man fled the scene of the accident but was later arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, Selzer said. Other charges are pending. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
