This summer's Art Academy Workshops sponsored by Southeast Missouri State University and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri were interactive, fun learning experiences using a variety of media for students ages 6-18. Five different half day weeklong workshops were offered at the University's art studios: Green Art with instructor Emily Booth, Drawing with Carol Horst and Brenda Seyer, Painting with Sharon Williams and Becky Coleman, Sculpture with Beth Thomas, and Ceramics with Benjie Heu. Mural Making with Craig Thomas was held at West Park Mall near the children's play center. The student artists gained cultural appreciation as they found inspiration in works of art and aesthetic awareness as they developed their own creative thinking skills for self expression. A culmination of art works from the workshop's participants will be on display at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, located at 32 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, through the month of August with an opening reception on Friday, August 6, from 5 - 8 p.m. All are invited to attend this event.
