Colin Brett McLain, 25, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Mongolia.
He was born March 22,1985, in Cape Girardeau to Randy Ivan and Judy Lynne Graden McLain.
Colin was a 2003 graduate of Central High School, and graduated from Carleton College in 2007 with a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and political economy. In 2009 he began law school at Washington Law School at American University in Washington, D.C.
Colin had a great love of reading. He traveled extensively, visiting China, Thailand, Korea, Switzerland and France, and also managed to make an appearance on the game show 'Jeopardy!' on March 23.
The summer of 2010 Colin was completing an eight-week internship with the legal adviser to the president of Mongolia. He was a member of Abbey Road Christian Church, National Society Sons of the American Revolution, and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Colin also loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Randy and Judy McLain of Cape Girardeau; a sister Katie (Kevin) Zimmer of Gray Summit, Mo.; grandparents, Leonard and Lillian Graden and Ivan and Betty McLain of Cape Girardeau; an uncle, Larry (Suzanne) Graden of Brownsburg, Ind.; two aunts, Cathy Proffer of Advance, Mo., Penny (Curt) Johns of Jackson; cousins, Jeremy and Nicole Graden of Ellisville, Mo., Heather Graden of Milwaukee, Robert Watson of Cape Girardeau, Richard Watson of Jackson, Anthony and Julie Proffer of Advance, Cory and Molly Johns of Jackson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Abbey Road Christian Church, with the Rev. Rodger Kiepe officiating. Burial will be in McLain Chapel Cemetery at Oriole.
