Investigators with the Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad are still searching for the suspect or suspects connected to the shooting death of 44-year-old Matthew Ervin.

Ervin was found dead early Saturday morning in a Cape Girardeau street at Park Drive and North Fountain Street.

Although Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound, he said he couldn't release where the wound was.

The major case squad, Clifton said, hasn't authorized him to release that information.

"It's premature to do it yet," he said.

Sgt. Jason Selzer, public information officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said the major case squad thinks releasing anything more could jeopardize the case.

The major case squad is still seeking information about where Ervin was or what he was doing in the last 24 hours before he was shot.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621 or CrimeStoppers at 339-6312.
