Norma M. Sander, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 21, 2010.
She was born March 27, 1919, in Pocahontas, to Alfred M. Vogel and Ida M. Steiner. She and Norman H. "Johnny" Sander were married Feb. 18, 1944, at Hot Springs, Ark.
Sander was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; a grandson, Justin, in 1987; and brothers Melvin in 1994 and Richard in 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Jon (Lee) Sander of Cape Girardeau, Don (Edna) Sander of Mission Hills, Kan.; a brother, Leonard Vogel of Cape Girardeau; and three grandchildren, Sarah, John and Taylor.
Her family moved from Pocahontas to Cape Girardeau in 1924. She was a 1941 graduate of what is now Southeast Missouri State University. She began her teaching career in Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by Washington School, Trinity Lutheran School, and Cape Girardeau Central High School, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its Ladies Jr. Aid, and Lutheran Home Auxiliary. She was often recognized by Southeast Missouri Hospital for her many hours as a volunteer.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Douglas Breiete officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
