Hear the band?

The cool shadows of evening, after a hot day in Southeast Missouri, provide a special comfort to those who enjoy the outdoors. Although television and air conditioning keep most of us indoors at night, there are still those who enjoy watching the fireflies rise from lawns and hedges to cast their sparkle and replace the last rays of the sun. Some of us enjoy the symphony of keening frogs as they celebrate the darkness of the night.

And what would make such evenings even better?

How about a concert of marches, show tunes, popular hits and sacred music?

That's what municipal bands in Jackson and Cape Girardeau offer in their weekly concerts.

The Jackson Municipal Band performs at 8 p.m. Thursdays in City Park. A couple of concerts with special guests start an hour earlier, so watch for schedules at semoevents.com or in the Page 2A calendar of events in the Southeast Missourian.

The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band performs at 8 p.m. Wednesdays at Capaha Park.

Both bands feature talented musicians of all ages who each week display their love of band music.
