Chaffee Industrial Arts build "Ceremonial Mace"

Three Rivers Community College Officials hold up a "ceremonial mace" that was designed and built by Chaffee Industrial Arts Students.

The Chaffee Industrial Arts program recently presented Three Rivers Community College with a "ceremonial mace and stand" that was used at TRCC's Spring Graduation Ceremonies on May 14th at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff, MO. The Chaffee Industrial Arts students entered a "design & build" contest held by TRCC in the Fall of 2009. Chaffee's design was selected as the "winner" from many entries from southeast Missouri area industrial technology programs. Chaffee Industrial Arts Alumni and current students participated in building the "ceremonial mace and stand". The mace and stand were handcrafted from black walnut and finished with a clear lacquer finish. The mace, which was turned on the lathe by Chaffee alumni Steven Atkinson, received a custom piece of "ozarkite" that was cut and polished into the shape of the state of Missouri. The mace and stand will be used at all TRCC graduations for many years to come.
