He was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Friedheim, son of Herman D. and Letha G. Harris Dickmann. He and Joann Bowen were married April 6, 1959, in Millersville.
Barry was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedheim. He was a skilled machinist and worked for the former Mor-Amp (welding supplies) in Jackson, the former Jackson Hosiery Mill 13 years, and Kagmo Electric Motor Co. in Cape Girardeau 13 years, retiring in 1996 due to health issues.
He enjoyed using his construction skills building and repairing homes for his family and friends. Some of his favorite activities were camping, playing and making music and working with arts and crafts, although his greatest pleasure was being with his family.
Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years; two daughters, Sherry Friese and Michelle (Kent) Quade of Jackson; four grandchildren, Derek and Ross Friese, Emily and Ethan Quade.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jerry Sticht and Goldie Green.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Schaffner officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
