Ervin Albert Peetz, 82, of Gordonville died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 20, 1928, near Tilsit, son of Alvin Albert and Carlena "Lena" Sperling Peetz. He and Della Mae Maag were married June 11, 1950, at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. She passed away April 22, 1991.
Ervin was a graduate of Jackson High School.
He served during the Korean conflict, having been inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 22, 1952, and honorably discharged from active duty Oct. 23, 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves eight years, being honorably discharged March 19, 1960.
Upon returning home Ervin worked on the family farm and was a school bus driver for Jackson School District. He also worked at Ceramo in Jackson and later at HWI in Cape Girardeau.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. James United Church of Christ at Tilsit, and later became a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ. Ervin was a member of the church choir, American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and a former member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and Jackson Trailriders Club. A few of Ervin's greatest loves in life were working around the farm and singing.
Loving survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott Peetz and Kent and Judy Peetz, all of Gordonville; three grandchildren, Levon, Mandy and Derrick Peetz; and a special friend, Marilyn Neal of Gordonville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Emanuel United Church of Christ. An American Legion service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery at Tilsit, with full military honors.
