AARP meets today for tour of the Marquette

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP No. 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at the Marquette Hotel for a tour.

McClure census forms distributed today

The village of McClure, Ill., will be conducting a census beginning today. Census takers will leave the papers and return three days later to pick up completed papers. Envelopes will be provided to ensure confidentiality. All income counts will be totaled and the village average will be used for purposes of obtaining grants.

Damage assessment course held in Scott Co.

Training on SEMA damage assessment will be presented by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Scott County EOC/E911 Center, at 22842 U.S. 61, Oran, Mo. For more information or to enroll, call Scott County EOC at 262-2070. The course is open to individuals who may become involved with damage assessment following a natural or technological disaster, such as local elected officials, emergency management and response personnel, public works and volunteer agency administrators.

Fun Club begins today at Red Star Baptist

The second annual citywide summer mission program for children up to age 18 will be held beginning today from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays through July 12 at Red Star Baptist Church, 1301 N. Main St., Cape Girardeau. Named the FUN (Friends Understanding New Life) CLUB, the program includes Bible study, arts and crafts, recreation and hot and cold lunches. Jackson Municipal Band to perform Thursday

The Jackson Municipal Band will present its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the band shell in City Park on Route D, across from Pocahontas Lumber. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Special guests include a newly formed bluegrass band called Kinda Bluegrass. The municipal band's portion of the concert includes the saxophone section on Billy Joel's "Root Beer Rag," marches, Bob Hope's theme and "Disney Razzmatazz."

Jaco family reunion planned for Saturday

The Jaco reunion will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Jackson City Park Pavilion No. 4. A picnic lunch will be held.

Open house at Trail of Tears on Saturday

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Trail of Tears State Park Visitor Center, on Highway 177 about 12 miles from Interstate 55 east of Jackson. Information, questions answered by staff and visitor comments will all be shared. This ongoing effort by the department aims to ensure the public has an input on services provided in state parks and historic sites. In the amphitheater behind the Visitor Center a concert featuring The Black-Eyed Susies will follow the open house.

Wampler reunion to be held in county park

The Wampler family reunion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cape County Park South. For more information, call Janene at 243-7137.

Overbeck family to meet in county park Sunday

The William H. Overbeck family reunion will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Cape County North Park, shelter No. 3. A basket dinner is in order.
