Emerson votes to bailout the Union Pension funds with your tax dollars?
See the fox news clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWjoXZ8ge...
Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson, a ''Republican'' from the 8th district in Missouri was one of 9 Republicans in Congress that are supporting the 165 Billion dollar bailout of Union pensions including SEIU, AFL-CIO, as well as NFL and baseball players pensions as reported by Megan Kelly of Fox news.
Bob Parker, a small business owner and running against Congresswoman Emerson calls this a tragic and irresponsible act of Congress and this would be no different than the "Cash for Clunkers" that Congresswoman Emerson voted for and the Banking/Automotive industry that Congresswoman Emerson voted for. '' This out of control spending is destroying America! We now are facing our taxes being raised at every level from the Federal level down as a result of these irresponsible actions! It is time we say to no to bail outs like what happens in the real world and begin to take a different course than what Ms. Emerson and her cronies have gotten us in!'', says Bob Parker candidate for the 8th district.

Editor's Note: Rep. Jo Ann Emerson disputes the information in this report and has filed a complaint through her office with Fox News, one of the sources for this submission. Her office issued a statement regarding the legislation, HR 3963, which can be found in the commentary below.

I just watched that video and let me tell you, it is downright pornographic. It is sick and disgusting to think that an incumbent Republican from Missouri's 8th District would join a coalition to support the bailout of the biggest unions' pensions. "Backstopping" they call it. Sort of like handing a credit card with no limits to a teenager with the instruction "have a blast, Daddy's got you covered!".
Thanks Bob Parker, for telling the drunken sailors and their union cronies on K St. that their tab is not going to be picked up anymore.
I don't think this a "union bailout". The National Association of Manufacturers is for this. Here is a link to their website.

It's important that we promote manufacturing. Those are good jobs.
Here is a statement by John Linder. He cowrote the Fair Tax book with Neil Boortz. He is also a sponsor of this bill.

Bob, stop working for the Democrats.
You spelled Megyn Kelly wrong.... Nice try though.
bob, you have your facts wrong....again
Emerson has no honor whatsoever.
If it's a bailout she'll vote for it.
If it outsources jobs, she'll vote for it.
If it supports globalism, she'll vote for it.
If it gives billions to our enemies, she'll vote for it.
If it promotes socialism, she'll vote for it.
If it's full of pork spending, she'll vote for it.
If it raises your taxes, she'll vote for it.
If it violates the Constitution, she'll vote for it.
This is a quote from John Linder's website:
"The pension funding relief I support was broad and received wide-ranging praise from businesses and organizations of many sizes and stripes including the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Southern Company, Mirant Corporation and Fox Entertainment Group."
Jo Ann had a $365,000 earmark (funded by money borrowed from China) for the Girl Scouts of the USA based in New York.

Representative Jo Ann Emerson's office issued the following statement to the Southeast Missourian regarding Bob Parker's submitted story:
"HR 3963, the Preserve Benefits and Jobs Act, does not include the word "union", authorizes no federal (taxpayer) money for a union, and the legislation has not been scored by any nonpartisan entity. $165 billion is the total underfunded amount of 108 multi-employer U.S. pensions, a figure which has no relationship to the legislation or its effect. The bill protects some benefits of Americans covered under a multi-employer pension should their employer enter bankruptcy. Though pension benefits would probably be 50 percent less, they would not be eliminated, since the partial pension obligation would be transferred to the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation, which is funded by insurance contributions from employers. Single employers currently have the right to participate in the PBGC, but businesses participating in multi-employer pensions cannot.
HR 3963 is supported by hundreds of companies, many of which are employers in the Eighth Congressional District, and national associations including Procter & Gamble, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Schnucks, Emerson, Prairie Farms and the National Association of Manufacturers."

But, does that make the bailout right? This and some other votes on important issues has caused quite a few (infact several) of us consevative voters to be concerned. Parker has a lot of good stands on the issues. He seems 100% conservative on them. I've read his literature and talked to him on the phone. In all due respect to Emerson, I appreciate the way her office handles calls and emails. You will always get a real person on the line and you will always get a response from her personally. I appreciate that. But her voting record has increasingly caused conern in the last few years.
HR 3963 is the bill that the Emerson camp responds to, but it is nothing like the legislation that the folks on Fox News are discussing.
The bill is actually HR 3936. Does Emerson even know what she is voting on anymore, or was the "3963" reference a slight of hand to confuse the voters?
Of coarse corporations and unions support this bill. They have bought and paid for their politicians who continue to support, sponser, and pass legislation like HR 3936 that ensures that all profits are privatized and all losses are socialized.
BTW - Bob you have them on the defensive. Keep up the good work!
My question: Don't businesses participating in multi-employer pensions contribute to pension funds controlled by "unions"? And if their insurance comes up short, who will pay then?
I am still exploring this issue to determine what is really happening.

nolimits: Generally speaking, union multi-employer pension funds have trustees equally represented by the union and the employers. They are the fiduciaries that control the finances. Unions do not dictate unilaterally the disbursement of funds.
Thanks Howdy

Thanks Leo! Bob Parker stopped by our place here in Dexter on Thursday and gave me brochures to hand out. We had a good visit. Before the visit, my wife was undecided, but she now supports Parker. Several people here in Dexter have already expressed to me their support for Parker.
Visit this video and hear a Republican mention this bill applies to union pension plans on the House floor.
"THIS BILL WILL SAVE THE TAXPAYERS BY SAYING TO THOSE CORPORATIONS THAT HAVE UNION PENSION PLANS, IF YOU FIND YOURSELVES IN A BIND, RATHER THAN THRUSTING THAT UPON THE TAXPAYER, IT SPREADS OUT OVER FIVE YEARS THE ABILITY TO BRING THOSE PENSION PLANS UP TO SPEED."

Does the editor of the SE Missourian usually post congressional press statements in the blog comments??? Or is it only when their endorsed candidate is feeling the heat? WTF?
Rule of thumb.
If it costs the taxpayers money and the funds go to some special group of people, (the funds are not "apportioned"),,,,
It's a bailout.
EMERSON = BAILOUT
Emerson voted for the bailout, the raising of the debt ceiling, Cash for Clunkers, and now this pro-union bailout. Could it have anything to do with the fact that she's married to a union attorney? Could it have anything to do with the fact that her daughters are union lobbyists? Let's replace her with Bob Parker, a true conservative. His policies are what Bill Emerson would have supported (Joann even, years ago). Go to his website, find out when he's going to be close to you, and go hear what he has to say. He and his wife are the down-to-earth, next-door-neighbor types that are warm and welcoming to everyone. I just met them last month, and they're great! I'm sold!!
