Cape Central Academic Team finishes 5th at State

The Cape Central Academic Competition Team finished fifth at the Class 4 state tournament in Columbia on Saturday. It was the Tigers' best finish since a previous fifth place in 2008. Central won the state championship in 2002.

Central's captain and top scorer, Josh Wen, made All-State by averaging over thirteen tossups per game. Kelsey Martin, Adam Legrand, Owen Hill and Prithvi Rudrappa also competed for the Central Intelligence Agency.

The top eight teams from Missouri in each class gathered at the University of Missouri for the "Show-Me Showdown." Central lost to eventual champion Kirksville in the preliminary rounds.

Fondly referred to as the "CIA" (Central Intelligence Agency), the team finished the year with a record of thirty-five wins and six losses, winning their fourth of the last five District 1 championships and their first sectional championship. They have qualified for the High School National Championship Tournament sponsored by the National Association of Quizbowl Tournaments in Chicago at the end of May.
